Fred Degoulet: Elite Ice and Mixed Mountaineer

Fred is at the forefront of an exciting new breed of ice and mixed climber.  He has taken his competition experience of dry tooling into the high mountains and achieved ambitious new routes previously thought of as impossible.

He is successfully opening difficult new lines on summits around the world, as well as envisaging and climbing bold new routes on alpine peaks. These achievements have seen Fred included twice in recent years, in the Piolet d’Or long list.


Fred : Alpinist

Climbing big mountains has been Fred’s passion since childhood. From joining the French national junior alpine team at the age of 24 to completing ten worldwide expeditions, Fred has been actively pushing the boundaries of alpine climbing for a decade. With two nominations for the Piolet d’Or long list under his belt, Fred is making a name for himself as an alpinist of the moment. Watch this space for his next adventure.

Fred has been an UIAGM and IFMGM (Mountain guide) for 9 years. He Specialises in guiding difficult ice, rock and mixed routes in the high mountains. Here is a selection of images from some of the best guided routes ever made.

Fred’s last event was in London at the Mile End Climbing Wall.  Fred spoke about how he uses dry and mixed climbing techniques to climb difficult lines at high altitude. This was also the first showing in London of Fred’s film “Looking for the void” which was shown last year in Kendal film festival.
